The draw had already been made and Boreham Wood knew they would this time get a crunch tie against one of the Premier League elite in Everton and at Goodison Park. One of the Wood Army as they are known is a big Evertonian and Kurt Smith even somehow had an old Tony Hibbert shirt in his bag to put on in celebration.
The manager has marshalled his troops well not only in the FA Cup but also in the National League this season. As happens when you go far in the FA Cup games start to pile up so while they lie third at the moment in the league they can go joint top if they win their games in hand.
Chairman Danny Hunter had to re-mortgage his house during the pandemic to keep the club afloat. He was as delighted as any big Chelsea fan as legends Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole are now on the Everton staff.
Boreham Wood play a stoic and defensive 4-4-2 system, but so do most at that level. What Garrard and his players do better than most at this level however is keep clean sheets. So far in the FA Cup run in four matches they have yet to concede a goal.
This is backed up when you look at their National League stats this season also, albeit having played less games they have the league best defence with only 17 goals conceded.
