Everton’s failure to cut into the European spots on a regular basis in recent seasons could now prompt top quality players to seek their chance at European football elsewhere. Everton players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison could search for new teams who are capable of fighting for European spots.

Everton’s ultimate dream in the Farhad Moshiri era has been make the leap from mid-table mediocrity to a side that can regularly challenge the top six status quo. The Toffees have failed miserably in achieving their ambitions. The closest they came was during Carlo Ancelotti’s time where the Toffees were in the hunt for a top six finish for the most part of the season, only to crumble during the culminating stages of the league campaign, resulting in a downfall in the table.

Instead of being a regular contender for a top six spot, Everton have been flirting with the drop zone often in recent times. Marco Silva’s appalling start to the 2019-20 campaign saw the Royal Blues drop to 18th before he was sacked.

The current campaign has been a massive failure too. This time the threat of relegation is far bigger than ever, as Everton remains just four points above Burnley with eight games to go in the season.

Manchester United interested in two Everton players

Everton’s failure to perform consistently is an uneasy issue. Players like Richarlison have been the prime faces of the squad even in difficult times. But it seems that even top players are now running out of patience. According to Football Insider, Richarlison has told his agent that he wants to explore options in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian has enough quality to feature in any top side in Europe and has been a target for PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United in the past. As per Fabrizio Romano, the name of Richarlison has been discussed internally at Manchester United and even though no talks with the player’s entourage have taken place.

Richarlison isn’t the only player being watched by Manchester United. Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite is a player being monitored by the Red Devils as per Daily Mail. The 19 year old arrived for Carlisle and is considered one of the most promising upcoming talents at Everton. He has remained as the fifth choice centre back behind Michael Keane, Yerry Mina, Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate.

Branthwaite is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is technically sound. United want to add a centre back to their squad and are looking at young players with bucket loads of potential. The 19 year old extended his contract till 2025 in December. Frank Lampard has a reputation for shaping the younger players and giving them deserved chances. As long as the Englishman remains in charge of the side, Branthwaite will remain in first team circles but in the event of relegation, even younger players might want to leave.

Manchester United could well possibly plan a double transfer raid in the summer. However, there have been very few indications of that happening but there’s a possibility.
