Everton: Frank Lampard interested in £22.5 million Chelsea midfielder
Everton are actively looking to upgrade their squad in the summer transfer window. The Central defence is an area that needs reinforcements. Frank Lampard is also hoping to strengthen the midfield and has some names on his shortlist. Conor Gallagher is a name admired by Lampard.
Everton’s midfield consists of Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Andre Gomes, Dele Alli, Tom Davies and Fabian Delph. So far there have been no indications about a renewal of Delph whose deal runs out this summer. Allan has been linked with an exit. Donny van de Beek has returned to Manchester United to link up with Erik ten Hag.
Gomes might also be placed on the market given his high wages and little output. Lampard would dream of a midfielder who has the drive to spear past opposition lines, and operate with strong will and dedication. Gallagher can do all that with a smile on his face. The 22 year old spent the 2021-22 season on loan at Crystal Palace from Chelsea, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League games.
He was the club’s second-highest goal-getter and second on the assist charts. He’s proven his mettle at such a young age and his ability to operate successfully in attacking, the central and defensive midfield has to be the deal breaker. When on loan at West Brom, he operated as a deep lying playmaker, screening the defence and also supplying balls forward.
Everton admire Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher
At Palace, he’s enjoyed far more attacking freedom which can be seen from his attacking numbers. He produces 2.8 shot creating actions every game while completing 1.5 dribbles every 90 minutes. Gallagher’s boundless energy combined with fine technical ability makes him a coach’s favourite.
According to Daily Star, Everton, West Ham and Crystal Palace are interested in Gallagher. However, there are no indications if Chelsea will be selling their talented midfielder. The 22 year old has spoken in the past about how he wants to succeed at Chelsea and given the skillsets he has, it is not difficult to understand why Thomas Tuchel would love him.
The Englishman has developed thoroughly under Patrick Vieira and should be ready to challenge the midfielders around him at Chelsea. Should the Blues of London decide to send him on loan, Everton should remain alert.
A transfer looks very unlikely despite Everton’s desire. However, if Gallagher doesn’t find playing time at Stamford Bridge his expedition should hit the shores of Merseyside. Lampard has an impressive track record of working with the youngsters and shaping them into better players and that will be a factor to be considered if Gallagher is to consider Everton.
