Everton’s most improved player
The most improved player has to be Alex Iwobi. Maybe Mason Holgate comes close but the impact that Iwobi has had is phenomenal. Iwobi is easily the most improved player under Frank Lampard. The Nigerian has played every minute of each game in the last 12 games and has been highly impressive.
When asked to operate as a right wing back, Iwobi’s performances have skyrocketed as he has shown commitment and versatility. The 26 year old scored the injury time winner at Newcastle which in the end proved to be crucial in Everton’s relegation battle.
Iwobi has gone on from being an occasional starter to becoming one of the first names on the team sheet under Lampard. As a wing back, he’s able to show his creativity and often use space on the flank to create but most importantly his discipline to track back and press opponents make him a complete player in that position.
Everton’s best moment of the season
Undoubtedly, it has to be that Dominic Calvert-Lewin goal against Crystal Palace. From being 2-0 down to completing a 3-2 comeback at Goodison that secured Everton’s safety was the moment of the season.
It was poetic that Calvert-Lewin scored that goal. A player who had fallen down, and struggled with injuries all season, had to dig deep within himself to find confidence, scored that majestic header in the classic Calvert-Lewin fashion.
The goal of the season
THAT Andros Townsend goal against Burnley. Who doesn’t remember that? Everton were 1-0 down before Michael Keane equalized. In the 65th minute, Abdoulaye Doucoure fed a pass to Townsend near the centre circle and the English winger drove forward with the ball, created space on his left and unleashed a rocket from his left foot that screamed past Nick Pope. The dip was perfect, the power on the ball was perfect, everything about that goal was perfect.
