Arsenal no longer seem interested in Everton striker

It looks as though Arsenal may have moved on from any potential move for Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

That’s according the Daily Mirror, which claims the Gunners have switched their attention away from the Everton star after being regulalrly linked with a move for him this summer.

The paper says the London club are looking instead at Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus (who they think maybe avaialble with Erling Haaland signing for the Champions) and Alvaro Morata of Atletico Madrid who has been on loan at Juventus.

With Calvert-Lewin’s poor season and injury problems, which resulted in him spending long periods of this past season out of the Toffees’ team, other potential suitors (including most of all Arsenal) might have decided he’s a risk not worth taking.

I have written in the past that of the two main Blues’ forwards Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison, I would on balance prefer to keep the Brazilian and be prepared to let Calvert-Lewin leave, if the right sort of offer were to come in.

I said this because I think that his injury problems and what seemed at times to me to be distraction and perhaps a lack of total focus and commitment to the Toffees’ cause.

That was certainly not something that could be said of Richarlison who showed tremendous determination to do everthing he could to keep Everton up and scored several critical goals that helped secure vital points in the relegation run-in.

However, it does look quite likely that the Brazil international could well move on this summer with several top European clubs, including Real Madrid, eyeing him.

If Richarlison does in the end leave Merseyside then I think the club needs to keep Calvert-Lewin unless, again, a really big money offer comes in that would enable Frank Lampard to really reshape his squad.

Everton have many pressing areas of concern regarding the current squad including solving the defensive problems, strengthening midfield and finding a way to bring more pace and creativity to the team overall.

We will see what happens of course as the summer goes on and whether Lampard and Directo of Football Kevin Thelwell will sanction a sale of both Richarlsion and Calvert-Lewin, assuming both are pursued by other clubs.

If Calvert-Lewin stays at Goodison Park, let’s hope that the England international can stay free of injury and continue to make the progress and scoring the goals he was doing the season before last. I think Everton will really need that to help avoid a repeat of the campaign just gone.
