When Everton announced Frank Lampard as their new manager, many expected that Lampard’s courteous relationship with Chelsea may allow the Toffees to bring some Chelsea starlets to Goodison Park either temporarily or on a permanent deal.

Chelsea sends a lot of their youngsters on loan and sometimes they do sell them if the team is filled with quality in that area to generate cash which allows them to go big in the transfer market.

When at Chelsea, Lampard was instrumental in developing burgeoning youngsters and giving them the confidence to compete at the top level. Lampard had a huge role to play in the development of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Mason Mount, Reece James and so many other youngsters.

His arrival at Everton did sound like a melody to the ears of Anthony Gordon and Jarrad Branthwaite. Gordon has been blossoming under Lampard and has emerged as one of the best players this season for Everton.

With the Toffees looking for great deals in the transfer market, Lampard could use his connections to get exciting Chelsea youngsters either on loan or a permanent deal. The Toffees have already been linked to some Chelsea players in this transfer window.

Everton could do with a talented midfielder like Billy Gilmour

1. Billy Gilmour

Billy Gilmour made his Chelsea debut under Lampard, in a pre-season game. The Scotsman made a total of 11 appearances in the 2020-21 season, impressing from midfield. With Thomas Tuchel having a world class midfield who had just won the UEFA Champions League, sending Gilmour out on loan was a wise decision.

The 20 year old was sent to Norwich City for the 2021-22 season. At Norwich, Gilmour featured in 28 games. Even though the Canaries couldn’t save themselves from the drop, the Chelsea loanee showed tremendous signs of development and continued his rise to prominence.

The central midfielder can be one of the smartest minds on the pitch. His technique and the ability to put in perfectly weighted passes makes him a wonderful addition to have in the side.

Gilmour doesn’t boast the most impressive attacking stats but his quick thinking under pressure and ability to scan the field and pick the right pass make Gilmour a dream for managers.

He can operate as a deep lying playmaker, a role that Lampard emulated in his later Chelsea days. Bringing Gilmour on loan could be another wise decision as the Toffees could save some money and invest it in reinforcing some other position.

Chelsea could once again incline to loaning Gilmour and sending him to Everton where Lampard will take great care, would be a beneficial decision for Chelsea. For Everton, they get a supremely talented midfielder who can provide much needed depth in the midfield.

Conor Gallager scored twice against Everton this season

2. Conor Gallagher

Conor Gallagher has already been linked with Everton. The Chelsea starlet was on loan at Crystal Palace and the 22 year old sparkled under Patrick Vieira. Thriving in his box to box role, Gallagher racked up eight goals and assisted another three in 34 Premier League games. He was Palace’s key midfielder and allowed them to easily transition from defence to attack.

Everton have shown interest in Gallagher alongside Crystal Palace and West Ham United. However, there are no indications from Chelsea about what lies next for Gallagher. Voted as Palace’s player of the season, Gallagher will return to his parent club and Tuchel is likely to sit down and discuss Gallagher’s future with the player.

In case, a solution cannot be found at Chelsea, the Blues of London could sell him or send him out on loan again. Everton should remain alert and try to lure him to Goodison Park if the opportunity arises.

Gallagher will have a host of clubs chasing him but that’s where Lampard could swoop in and try convince the 22 year old to join the Toffees. Everton have been crying out for an energetic and savvy midfielder like Gallagher.

Especially, if a midfield clearout takes place, the Toffees will need a versatile option like Gallagher. The Englishman is valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt so the Merseysiders will have to spend big bucks to sign the Englishman.

Levi Colwill is already an Everton target

3. Levi Colwill

Another promising youngster who was impressive during his loan spell at Huddersfield. The 19 year old played 29 Championship games. Huddersfield plays the Championship playoff final at Wembley and the winner would secure promotion to the Premier League. Colwill could be in line to start and play a crucial role in Huddersfield’s promotion.

The Toffees were linked to Colwill back in April. Southampton, Leicester City and Fulham were also following the 19 year old. The Chelsea chiefs are happy with Colwill’s development and Tuchel is set to assess Colwill in the pre-season after which a decision will be made. The departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen could open doors of first team opportunities for Colwill.

Everton want to overhaul their defence as Yerry Mina is not trustworthy in terms of fitness meanwhile, Michael Keane struggles to find consistency. The Toffees are aiming to bring young players wanting to prove themselves and are capable of handling pressure situations.

If Chelsea decides that Colwill may not be ready or cannot find a place in the squad, Everton can snap him up on a loan deal or even push to sign him permanently. There is an extremely talented player out there who with the right counsel can become a top player in the future.
