Burnley forward Maxwel Cornet is attracting interest from a host of Premier League clubs and Everton are one of the teams keeping tabs on him. The 25 year old suffered relegation with Burnley on the final day of the Premier League season which has now casted doubts over his future at Turf Moor.
Burnley smashed their transfer record for Cornet last summer, paying £15 million for the Ivorian speedster. In his first season with the Clarets, Cornet carried out various roles, playing as a left winger and as a striker in a two striker formation.
In 28 games he played for Burnley, the 25 year old scored nine times, emerging as Burnley’s top scorer in the Premier League and assisted two more goals. With Burnley now relegated, their top players like Cornet, Dwight McNeil and Nick Pope are subject of interest for Premier League clubs.
Even though Cornet signed a deal at Turf Moor till 2026, his contract has a clause that in the event of relegation, Cornet can leave the club for just £17.5 million. The former Lyon attacker is already a target for a number of sides.
Everton contact agents of Maxwel Cornet
According to 90min, English sides West Ham United want to sign Cornet. Along with the Hammers, Newcastle United, Brighton, Wolves, Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Everton are also interested. The Toffees have already made contact with his representatives as have few other sides.
There are clubs from La Liga, Serie A and Bundesliga too who are tracking the 25 year old. Cornet will add quality to whichever side he goes to. His versatility is one of his biggest strengths as he can play as winger, as a forward and also as a full back.
Corent’s departure from Burnley is almost certain and the Clarets will benefit from the £17.5 million sale so now it just remains to be seen which side comes and swoops Cornet. For Everton, this could be a difficult operation given the sheer competition but if the Toffees can convince him, Cornet could be an important player for Lampard.
He’s quick and doesn’t shy away from taking on defenders. Everton may have to bid farewell to Richarlison or Dominic Calvert-Lewin as big clubs circle around the iconic duo. Corent could be a decent bet to replace them.
