The transfer window has officially opened and Everton have already made some moves that will be beneficial to the club’s goals in the upcoming season. The Toffees signed James Tarkowski to strengthen their defence and now will be looking to revamp their midfield after lacklustre performances seen in the middle of the park.

Everton will be losing Donny Van Beek to an expiring loan spell along with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fabian Delph who walk as free agents. Frank Lampard has always insisted on having a deep lying midfielder, possibly a number six, in the team. Therefore, the Toffees will be in search of a new midfielder and Tottenham Hotspur may have their ideal fit.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is the man to replace the Everton departures and he would cost the team around £30 million. Hojbjerg appeared in 36 of the 38 matches for Tottenham in the Premier League, proving his fitness levels and consistency.

He only contributed two goals and two assists but the 26-year old has unlimited potential. He started his career in the German League and eventually found his way to Southampton where his career took off. The Spurs bought Hojbjerg for £15 million back in 2020, beating Everton and other interested clubs and now Spurs can cash in for double what they invested.

Everton must not miss out on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg has not just been a backbone subbing in for Tottenham but he had a great run of matches representing his country at the World Cup Qualifiers. Hojbjerg started in seven matches for Denmark and helped his country win group F.

He contributed a goal and two assists during those seven matches and played multiple positions around the centre of the field. Hojbjerg primarily serves as a defensive midfielder but received time as CAM and an outside midfielder during the qualifiers. His best performances have come from the defensive midfield role and he should be viewed as a holding midfielder.

The Danish midfielder would improve Everton’s base in the midfield and serve as a protector of the backline. He has the ability to break the press and play intelligent passes which can be highly beneficial to Everton.

Hojbjerg’s fit in Everton is great but many teams are bidding for the 26 year old. So far, there are no concrete links for Hojbjerg from Everton’s side but he’s a player that the Merseysiders should strongly consider.

Newcastle are the early favourites but do not be surprised if more Premier League teams jump into the race. Lampard must act quickly in the early days of the transfer window to land a top talent such as Hojbjerg.
