Farhad Moshiri took over Everton in 2016 and the fans were promised that he would back the manager in every transfer window, making quality additions to the squad and elevating the level of the team. Moshiri has stuck to his promise of bankrolling high money transfers as per the manager’s wishes but a lot of them have turned out to be disastrous.

Exorbitant spending has seen Everton plunge into a financial crisis and record losses of over £100 million for the third straight year. Enormous amounts have been spent on players who simply didn’t fit into the system or were highly unimpressive during their time at the club. The problem is that Moshiri has always had ambitious plans and has backed every manager but that has often backfired because of the instability of the managerial appointments.

The current squad is a mish-mash of six different managers who had signed players as per their ideas and systems, only for them to leave the club in around 18 months. This trend has continued since the appointment of Ronald Koeman in 2016.

Now, there is news over a takeover as Farhad Moshiri remains open to selling his stake. The Everton takeover would not be easy to complete. Any willing party will have to commit to the completion of the Bramley-Moore Dock stadium and also back Frank Lampard in the transfer windows.

There have already been informal talks between Moshiri and interested parties but it is Peter Kenyon fronted consortium that are front runners and have signed a deal of exclusivity, as per The Telegraph. The group has committed to fund the new stadium and also give significant backing to Lampard despite the fragile financial situation.

As takeover talks continue to gain momentum, Moshiri’s era at Everton seems to be coming to an end. Under his ownership, the Toffees have gone on to spend over £500 million in transfers but that hasn’t transpired into success on the pitch. Here are some of the worst signings that were made under Moshiri’s ownership.
