Everton have been mentioned yet again as one of the interested sides in Jesse Lingard who is going to leave Manchester United as a free agent this summer. Lingard has been an evergreen target of sorts, getting linked to the Toffees almost every transfer window. With the Englishman now a free agent, the links are even more intensifying.

Lingard has not been an important part of Manchester United’s plans since the last couple of seasons and hence a new contract at Old Trafford would have been a preposterous decision. The player started just two Premier League games last term and was largely surplus to requirements.

He did have a stellar loan campaign at West Ham during the second half of the 2020-21 season where he netted nine goals and further provided five assists in 16 games. Since then, the Hammers have been in awe of the attacker.

David Moyes was able to extract the maximum out of Lingard and help him reach new levels of productivity. West Ham wants to bring him to the London Stadium on a free transfer and have already taken the first step.

Everton holds a strong interest in free agent Jesse Lingard

According to Football Insider, West Ham United have made their new offer to Lingard. The Irons have made a lucrative long term offer in order to lure Lingard to West Ham. The 29 year old will be a free transfer which allows any interested club to save millions in transfer fees. Lingard is also open to the idea to return to West Ham.

The Englishman previously had concerns about shifting permanently last summer when West Ham made attempts to sign him on a permanent deal. This time around he’s much more willing to the proposition.

Everton and Newcastle United have shown strong interest in the free agent. Nothing more has been mentioned about Everton’s interest and whether they will be making an offer to the 29 year old attacker.

Perhaps, a free transfer comes with minimal risk. The Toffees have already wrapped up James Tarkowski’s free transfer and now could target Lingard. The Englishman is capable of playing in a wide range of attacking positions. He’s lethal when deployed behind the striker or can always make his presence felt from the wing.

Everton could do with a player capable of getting into goalscoring positions. The goalscoring burden on Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison is always high and a player like Lingard can alleviate the pressure.
