What has taken the Everton fans by storm is the news of Tottenham Hotspur launching an offer soon for Anthony Gordon. The winger is born and bred in Merseyside and has come through the ranks and in no circumstance should be considered as a player that can be offloaded. Gordon must be protected at all costs.

Back in June 2020, the world was still getting accustomed to living lives in lockdowns and desperately hoping that humanity gets through a phase that was never envisaged by anyone even in their wildest dreams. Amidst all this, sports such as the Premier League were about to begin after a three month hiatus.

It was 21st June 2020, Everton resumed their Premier League campaign against Liverpool. In the build up to the game, then-manager Carlo Ancelotti hinted that Gordon may get his chance in the Merseyside derby. Now, the Merseyside derby is a fierce battle and even though Everton might not have been able to replicate the success that Liverpool has had in recent years, this is one match that is driven by passion and intensity.

Tempers can flare high and the football pitch can turn into a battle field. To throw a teenager in the middle of the pitch can be a little too overwhelming and intimidating, especially when he’s making his first Premier League start, but it was not for Gordon.

The lanky teenager grabbed the opportunity with both hands and emerged as the best player for Everton that afternoon. Everton and Liverpool shared the spoils but it was Gordon who stole the headlines.

He was unarguably the most energetic player on Everton’s side, driven by intensity and passion. Gordon embodied everything that you’d expect an Everton player to have – pace, dynamism, directness and most importantly the will to not give up and maintain a high work rate.
