What has taken the Everton fans by storm is the news of Tottenham Hotspur launching an offer soon for Anthony Gordon. The winger is born and bred in Merseyside and has come through the ranks and in no circumstance should be considered as a player that can be offloaded. Gordon must be protected at all costs.

Back in June 2020, the world was still getting accustomed to living lives in lockdowns and desperately hoping that humanity gets through a phase that was never envisaged by anyone even in their wildest dreams. Amidst all this, sports such as the Premier League were about to begin after a three month hiatus.

It was 21st June 2020, Everton resumed their Premier League campaign against Liverpool. In the build up to the game, then-manager Carlo Ancelotti hinted that Gordon may get his chance in the Merseyside derby. Now, the Merseyside derby is a fierce battle and even though Everton might not have been able to replicate the success that Liverpool has had in recent years, this is one match that is driven by passion and intensity.

Tempers can flare high and the football pitch can turn into a battle field. To throw a teenager in the middle of the pitch can be a little too overwhelming and intimidating, especially when he’s making his first Premier League start, but it was not for Gordon.

The lanky teenager grabbed the opportunity with both hands and emerged as the best player for Everton that afternoon. Everton and Liverpool shared the spoils but it was Gordon who stole the headlines.

He was unarguably the most energetic player on Everton’s side, driven by intensity and passion. Gordon embodied everything that you’d expect an Everton player to have – pace, dynamism, directness and most importantly the will to not give up and maintain a high work rate.

Anthony Gordon is Everton’s crown jewel

Those who had seen Gordon touch the ball that day knew that the kid is bound to achieve greater heights in the future. Fast forward to today, Gordon has gone from being a sporadic part of the team to being a cornerstone in the frontline. Current manager Frank Lampard has sung poems of Gordon’s immaculate talent and skill. In many ways, Gordon is the crown jewel of Lampard’s Everton.

Last season, the Englishman was a mainstay in the Everton attack, playing 35 Premier League games, scoring four times and assisting another two goals. Out of the 35 games he featured in, he ended up starting more than 70% of those games, a rapid increase in comparison to the 2020-21 season. Thanks to a solid individual season, Gordon won Everton’s player of the season and players’ player of the season award.

Gordon is nowhere close to being a finished product, nor is he on the level of Haalands and Mbappes, but he is destined to reach greater levels of productivity with the right guidance and environment.

Sky Sports reported that Spurs are looking to launch a package deal to secure Richarlison and Gordon. Everton do not want to be pressured into Richarlison’s sale and nor do they intend to let their brightest youngster leave the club. Previously, Gordon has indicated that he’s settled in Merseyside and sees Everton as his home.

Anthony Gordon is not for sale whatsoever

Tottenham’s interest can open the floodgate for offers that can potentially arrive for Gordon this summer and in the future. In that case, Gordon must be protected at all costs. He’s born and bred in Merseyside. He’s come through the ranks and understands what it is to be an Evertonian. He bleeds blue and has the typical Everton DNA.

Gordon must be protected at all costs. In a short span of time, the Englishman has become a fan favourite, thanks to his hearty performances every time he steps onto the pitch. Lampard loves to work with youngsters and Gordon is the best bet to benefit the most from Lampard’s tutelage.

Gordon must be protected at all costs. Tactically, he is diverse, having the range to operate from either flank and also as an attacking midfielder. Though some of his best performances have come from the flank, Gordon has always been willing to help his side in any which way possible.

His pace and directness can deceive defenders and allow him to create space in tight locations. Most importantly, the 21 year old has that young blood running in his veins that highlights the trait of never giving up. Gordon must be protected at all costs.

Will Anthony Gordon soon become Everton’s main man?
