Everton interested in Watford forward as Richarlison replacement
Reports today claim Everton are serious about a possible move for Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis as Richarlison’s replacement following the Brazilian’s move to Tottenham.
According to London paper the Evening Standard, Everton are seriously considering a move for the Nigerian who might well be available for around £20 million.
He would be replacing a player in Richarlison, who also came to Merseyside via Watford, when he was signed in the summer of 2018.
I’ve written about Dennis as a possible replacement for Richarlison and I think that while he’s not a big name for sure, he has solid stats and in fact scored the same number of Premier League goals last season as the Brazilian. In addition, he added six assists.
The Nigerian is also a good age being 24 and is strong defensively. Furthermore, he is able to play in a number of attacking positions. All this makes him look a decent potential replacement at least on paper.
As I said earlier, I don’t know if Dennis is the right player to come in for Richarlison. But, given all the above and the relatively affordable fee together with the fact he will probably be very keen to return to the Premier League after Watford’s relegation, makes him a viable option.
There are obviously other candidates that the Blues’ could and should look at, and obviously it will be good for Frank Lampard and Kevin Thelwell to cast their net wide and put any possible replacement under the microscope.
With funds tight and contining uncertainty over the future of others like Dominic Calvert-Lewin Everton need to to get this decision right and ensure they bring in a forward who can at the minimum, properly replace Richarlison’s commitment, work ethic and goals.
Is Dennis that man? I’m not certain of course, but I think he does tick many of the boxes and so I reckon he certainly should be one of the main candidates to consider.
