Arsenal in advanced talks to sign £35 million Everton midfield target
Earlier this summer, Everton were linked to Manchester City player Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukrainian was said to be open to leaving the Champions of England and the Toffees were named as one of the suitors for the utility man.
Frank Lampard does want to upgrade the midfield this summer and Zincehnko could be a perfect fit. The Manchester City player is a natural central midfielder, with all the capabilities of operating as a number 8 in the system. At Manchester City, Zinchenko spent most of his time playing as a left back. However, he operates as a central midfielder for his national team and does a spectacular job in that position.
His excellent technical qualities on the ball and neat passing ability make him an asset to have in the team. Zinchenko has thrived at Manchester City but the staggering success of his teammates like Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva has seen him become an unsung hero. The Citizens are in search of a new left back with Brighton left back Marc Cucurella being a top target. In the case of Cucurella’s arrival, Manchester City would be open to selling the 25 year old.
Adding Zinchenko to the roster would instantly improve the quality of the midfield. The Ukrainian would be a direct upgrade to any central midfielders that Everton currently house. Being interested in signing a player and actually signing the player are two different things. The competition for a four time Premier League winner is immense and the Toffees could find it difficult to beat the clubs in the race for Zinchenko.
Arsenal close in on Everton target Oleksandr Zinchenko
According to the Evening Standard, Arsenal are locked in advanced talks to sign the 25 year old this summer. The club from North London wants to seal the deal after missing out on Lisandro Martinez of Ajax. Edu Gaspar, the technical director at Arsenal, is leading the negotiations for signing the Ukrainian.
Manchester City are expected to demand around £35 million for the former Ufa midfielder and given that Arsenal have already secured the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Man City, the negotiations between both the clubs for Zinchenko would proceed smoothly.
Everton could indeed miss out on Zinchenko. The Ukrainian would have been a great piece of transfer business and straight away improve Lampard’s team. Unless Lampard and Kevin Thelwell have some trick up their sleeve, the Toffees will lose this battle to Arsenal and will have to continue their search for a midfielder elsewhere.
Everton have some leeway in the transfer market after the Richarlison sale. The £60 odd million will leave some wriggling room to bring new reinforcements but the Royal Blues cannot afford to splash the cash. Money must be spent wisely or they will end up in more perils.
