Everton are yet to make a move for an attacking player this summer but that could change if Lampard pulls the trigger on Ross Barkley.
Chelsea have now decided that Ross Barkley is not a part of their future plans and they are offering the 28-year old to two of their premier league competitors. According to The Mirror, Aston Villa and Everton have been offered the services of Barkley.
Barkley started out his career playing in Everton’s youth program and finally got playing time back in 2014. In his first full season, he managed two goals and two assists but this was only the beginning of his fantastic career.
Barkley completed three full Premier League seasons with Everton and racked up 15 goals during this timeframe. His hard talent caught the attention of other clubs Everton had no other option but to sell him to Chelsea for £15 million. The English midfielder has struggled a bit since his promising start at Everton which could lead to his return.
Everton have a chance to sign Ross Barkley from Chelsea
Chelsea loaned out Barkley for the majority of last season and he did not have such an exciting season for Aston Villa. In 24 appearances, he only managed to score three goals so Villa are not keen on keeping him around.
The biggest concern that comes with this signing is his massive contract which amounts to over £100,000 per week. Aston Villa have indicated that Barkley’s talents are not yet worth that large sum of money.
Lampard used Barkley extensively during his time as the Chelsea boss and knows the Englishman. During Lampard’s time at Chelsea, the 28 year old made 34 appearances, managing 11 goal contributions.
Frank Lampard has made it clear that he wishes to make a splash by signing a top midfielder this summer and not all negotiations have gone according to plan. The team has been linked with several options from abroad but bringing in a familiar face like Barkley could be just what the Toffees need for their rebuild. In case Barkley signs for Everton, will the fans forgive him? Only time will tell.
