Another player linked as Everton rumours get more unlikely

Everton are today being linked with yet another player as the summer transfer window drags on with still no additions to the first-team squad, apart from James Tarkowski.

The latest is Adnan Januzaj with reports claiming Everton are along with (inevitably of course!) West Ham United, apparently looking at making a move for the player.

It’s all getting a bit silly now with increasingly far-fetched stories about an endlessly expanding list of ever more improbable transfer targets, and Januzaj is the latest name mentioned.

The former Manchester United player was with Real Sociedad until the end of last season but has since been released and is now a free agent.

This report comes from a Spanish source and they are saying that the two Premier League clubs are interested in bringing the Belgian international back to England.

I’ve lost count of the number of players being linked with the Blues and I’m getting a bit tired of all these increasingly absurd transfer rumours.

I suppose it is the nature of transfer windows. But, it does feel increasingly as though Everton might in truth be facing an eleventh hour scramble to get a few players in before the window shuts as none of these alledged links seems to have any solid foundation.

Anyway, to get back to this story and Januzaj is a player of recognised talent who has never fulfilled the promise that led United to sign him back in 2013 when he was a teenager.

The Belgian had a fitfull time at Old Trafford and despite showing the odd flash of what he could do,  he wasn’t able to consistently produce the performances that had been hoped for and he eventually left English football for Spain.

Well, now he’s also been let go by his La Liga club with Sociedad no longer requiring his services after a season in which despite his apparent qualities, he presumably failed to produce enough end product.

I can’t really see any concrete reason why the Toffees’ would seriously consider bringing him in other than the fact he’s available without a fee. Once again, it feels like a purely speculative story.

With no disrespect to Januzaj, I suppose though that’s where Everton are nowadays having to look at all sorts of players who come without costing any up front cash. To be honest, it’s a sorry state for this club to be in.
