On and on the rumours go and today another one has Everton supposedly eyeing up a move for another Wolverhampton Wanderers player.

Everton have been consistently linked with Wolves players with Morgan Gibbs-White a name constantly mentioned and stories of offers having been made etc.

It now doesn’t appear that the Toffees’ will get the young English midfielder who has now said he wants to stay at Molineux and fight for his place in the team.

Well now media reports claim the Blues’ have moved on to another Wolves midfield star as Everton are supposedly weighing up a move for Belgian international Leander Dendoncker.

Frank Lampard has said he wants to bring in midfield reinforcements and in particular a number six type player to boost the defensive strength in the middle of the park.

And now, Dendoncker is the latest name to be connected with a move to Goodison Park this summer, apparently to solve this problem.

The article above actually raises lots of questions about Dendoncker’s suitability to fulfill this role and do the job required.

The 27-year-old Belgian has some strengths in particular his ability in the air something that would presumably help with Everton’s chronic problems defending set-pieces.

Overall though he doesn’t seem the best option if Lampard wants a genuine deep-lying, defensive midfielder to protect that hugely vulnerable backline.

In fact Dendoncker’s best position would appear to be centre-back. And so alternatively, perhaps he could actually operate as a sort of sweeper if Lampard either chooses to, or is forced to stick with three centre-backs next season.

That might be because he can’t get in a suitable midfield player, something which is looking more and more likely as the days go by and the Blues’ still seem unable to make any concrete moves in the transfer market.
