Mohamed Camara can execute the role of a midfield anchor efficiently

A Midfield Anchor

Another reason Camara has been compared to the World Cup winning midfielder Kante is his ability to anchor the space between the defence and the midfield. Camara is one of the best pressers in Europe but he also thrives when it’s time to defend.

The 22 year old Mali international is a bulldog of a midfielder who may not have the defensive awareness of somebody like Idrissa Gueye, but he makes up for it with his speed and athleticism, injecting some pace into Everton’s midfield that Frank Lampard has been crying out for ever since he joined the club. Everton have often been blamed for the laggard midfield and being overrun in the middle of the park by the opposition but with the presence of someone like Camara and Onana, energy won’t be a problem for the Toffees.

Besides his physical tools, the RB Salzburg midfielder has shown a high defensive IQ during his time at Salzburg, shown by his 5.25 tackles and interceptions per game along with his two blocks. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, an attribute that could help an Everton team that won’t exactly be possession-heavy.
