Everton have completed the signing of Amadou Onana from LOSC Lille for £33 million. Frank Lampard was determined to fix the midfield and eyed Idrissa Gueye and Onana. While the Onana deal has gone through and the player has joined the club, the deal for Gueye has dragged on.

It has been weeks since Everton initiated contact with Gueye and PSG to sign the Senegalese midfielder permanently. The Parisiens want to offload Gueye as soon as possible which would have made negotiations smooth and quick. Everton were working to complete the deal on priority basis after Onana’s transfer was completed.

In fact, it was reported that Gueye deal completion is only a matter of time. The arrival of Gueye would massively boost Everton’s midfield as the Toffees have struggled to have commanding ball winning players who can offer energy in the middle of the pitch.

Gueye had left Everton in 2019, joining PSG for £30 million. Three years later, the Merseysiders want to sign Gueye back as the proposed replacements for the Senegalese have miserably failed. The Toffees were never going to offer a big transfer fee, given the economic condition of the club. To ease the deal, Gueye was also open to taking a wage cut. Yet, the deal has hit a stumbling block.

The deal for Idrissa Gueye between Everton and PSG has stalled

According to 90min, Everton’s attempts to re-sign Gueye have stalled as the English club and PSG are yet to reach an agreement over the fees. The 32 year old midfielder has been told that he is not in Christophe Galtier’s plans, which is why the player is pushing for an exit. Yet, the talks have stalled and the deal is now not close to completion.

Gueye is looking for compensation from PSG which the French club have in turn asked Everton to pay some part of that sum in the form of transfer fees. This update could see the move collapse as Everton are not in favour of paying big money to PSG in transfer fees. Previously, there were reports that the Blues were willing to pay €10 million for the Senegal international.

Reportedly, Everton have also switched their attention to signing RB Salzburg midfielder Mohamed Camara as an alternative to Gueye. At this point, the deal for Gueye looks difficult and if it continues to drag on, the Blues could soon pull out and shift their attention elsewhere as they want to improve the midfield.
