As Everton approach tomorrow lunchtime’s match at Aston Villa, media claim the Toffees’ are still looking at a number of forward options.

One of those is Guinea international Serhou Guirassy who is being strongly linked with a move to Everton in the coming days.

The French-born striker is out-of-favour at his current club Rennes, as they have just signed another forward from PSG and that means he could be available for a transfer.

So, who is the 26-year-old and would he solve the goal-scoring problems the Blues’ have after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury?

His bald figures don’t make for sensational reading although he did net nineteen times over the last two campaigns, which is not a bad goal return, especailly as he was often used as a substitute.

And, according to some reports, Guirassy represents a pretty good option given his numbers once those numbers are broken down and compared to other forwards in the Premier League and taking into account factors such as his lack of starting opportunities.

Of course, statistics can be misleading and you never know who is going to be successful and who might not be when they move league’s and countries.

There are players whose numbers didn’t set the world on fire in other leagues but who ultimately proved a huge success in English football. Liverpool’s Mo Salah would be an example of that.

Others such as Andryi Shevchenko, who was expected to be a hit at Chelsea given his pedigree, failed to perform to the level they had shown.

I’m not saying Guirassy is an equivilent calibre of talent or is going to have that sort of impact, but with a player like this who’s coming from a continental league it’s always difficult to be certain and there are certainly plenty of gems to be found in European football. Is he one of them?

Well, there is an ever growing list of forward names circulating in the media and all supposedly of interest to Everton as the search for striking reinforcements continues into another week.

But, time is ticking on and the Toffees’ are aleady facing their second game of the new campaign without a recognised striker apart from Venuzula centre-forward Salomon Rondon, who is hardly a prolific goalscorer.

Guirassy looks a decent bet on paper and he could be a real find. To be honest though it’s just getting to the point where deals have to be done and quickly because Everton can’t wait too long to find a goalscorer.
