Everton have made five signings so far but there is room for more. Since the arrival of Amadou Onana, the Toffees are waiting for the sixth arrival. PSG midfielder Idrissa Gueye is a target and Everton are doing everything possible to get the deal over the line.

A couple of weeks ago, Everton made contact with PSG to discuss the availability of Gueye. The French giants were ready to offload Gueye as soon as possible which gave a boost to Everton’s chances. The player was open to a return to Merseyside after a fruitful spell at the club from 2016 to 2019.

With all parties willing, it seemed a relatively straightforward deal that would proceed smoothly. However, the deal has dragged on for far too long and has stalled because of several reasons.

Gueye’s arrival would further reinforce the midfield, giving much needed relief to Frank Lampard. The arrival of a robust ball winning defensive midfielder would go onto solve an issue that has lingered since 2019. Everton had failed to replace Gueye after his departure in 2019. It is quite ironic that the Toffees are replacing Gueye with Gueye.

PSG want a transfer fee from Everton for Idrissa Gueye

According to L’Equipe, Gueye has reached an agreement with Everton and is now waiting for a green signal from PSG to travel to England. There have been no problems on getting Gueye to agree a move to Everton. The 32 year old has always prioritized a move to Goodison Park, and even rejected a chance to join Nottingham Forest.

The problem that has been stalling the deal and even posing a risk of a deal collapse is the failure to reach an agreement with PSG. According to RMC Sport (via Get French Football News), Gueye’s move to Everton is stalling as PSG want a transfer fee for the 32 year old instead of terminating his remaining one year contract.

The Toffees could soon lose patience as the deal has now dragged on for over 10 days. The Senegal international is in favour of joining on a free transfer as that will allow him to get a bigger signing bonus. A free transfer would certainly work for the Merseysiders but PSG’s stubborn nature means that Everton may end up paying a small sum of money to sign the 32 year old.

Gueye is valued at £10.8 million but the Toffees would not pay that much for Gueye who is in the final year of his contract.

Everton will have to pay in excess of £30 million to sign rapid Championship attacker. dark. Next
