Everton have a number of striker targets as the Toffees work hard to sign a new striker before the curtains fall on September 1. The Toffees are eyeing a number of strikers in England and one of them is Blackburn Rovers striker Ben Brereton Diaz. He is not a top priority but surely one of the names being looked at.
What is glaringly evident, flashing right in front of the eyes is how Everton is hurting without a striker. In the first three games of the season, the Toffees looked toothless without a strike. In the game against Nottingham Forest, Everton had several chances to score and kill off the game but they weren’t venomous enough and simply couldn’t make much out of the chances.
Salomon Rondon did have a better performance but there is more to be offered on the table. Diaz has been at Blackburn since 2020 and has been a prolific goalscorer for the Championship side. In five games this term, the Chilean has netted two goals and provided one assist as the Rovers enjoy being in the top four in the early phases of the Championship.
Everton had been credited with an interest in Diaz in the past few weeks. Blackburn are trying to resist any offers as they have rejected a £10 million offer from the French side OGC Nice. As per Transfermarkt, the 23 year old is valued at £14.4 million and if Blackburn will make a sale, they will ask for an amount upwards of his valuation.
Everton target Ben Brereton Diaz open to leaving Blackburn
However, there is some good news to Everton ears and to the ears of those clubs who are interested in signing Diaz. As per journalist Alan Myers, Diaz is not interested in discussing a new contract with Blackburn Rovers.
The Riversiders are offering the Chilean a new deal but he is determined to leave the club and will not discuss any contract details with the club. His current deal expires next summer making him an economically attractive and an impressive player to consider.
The new deal will see him get a wage bump but he is inclined to leaving the club and will be open to joining Nice if a deal can be agreed between both the clubs. Blackburn are said to be holding out on an asking fee in the region of £15 million.
Everton boss Frank Lampard would certainly prefer someone with Premier League experience but Diaz is a name that still is on the shortlist. With just about a little more than a week to go for the transfer deadline day, things will start to pick up momentum at Finch Farm as the search for a striker continues.
