Everton have sealed the signing of Neal Maupay, addressing the depleted striker department. Frank Lampard has now shifted his attention to strengthening the midfield as the Blues are still pushing to sign Idrissa Gueye from PSG.

It has now been weeks since Everton’s interest in Gueye. Initially, the deal was thought to be an easy one as all parties wanted the same outcome. PSG wanted to sell Gueye as soon as possible, Everton dreamed of Gueye’s signing and the player himself was open to the idea of joining Everton.

The negotiations moved quickly with the player agreeing to terms with Everton, however, the negotiations hit a dead end because the Toffees were failing to reach an agreement with PSG. The Toffees were hoping that PSG will allow Gueye to leave on a free transfer, as he is in the last twelve months of his contract and not in Christophe Galtier’s plans. The French giants insisted on getting a small transfer fee.

This pushed the deal to get stalled and even risked collapse. Lampard wants to add experience and a powerful defensive midfielder who has the ability to win the ball back and supply energy to the midfield. Gueye seems to be the most viable option.

Everton resume talks with PSG for Idrissa Gueye

The Merseysiders are ready to reignite negotiations with PSG for Gueye. According to Tutto Mercato Web, Everton have begun another round of talks with PSG to sign Gueye. At one point the deal seemed far from completion but the tide has turned and talks are now positive and there’s the hope of getting the deal done before the end of the summer transfer window.

The Toffees are pushing on multiple fronts to add midfielders. Apart from Gueye, the Toffees are also in talks to sign Mohammed Kudus from Ajax, initially on loan. Everton have less than a week to complete these deals and there’s every possibility that the negotiations could go right down to the wire.

The Senegal international has been left out of the PSG squad for the first three Ligue 1 matches. The 32 year old has asked for a contract termination as he pushes to join Everton. Whether a free transfer is agreed upon or the Blues end up paying a nominal fee remains to be seen.
