Everton manager Frank Lampard has been talking in more detail about his and the club’s transfer plans for the upcoming January window.

This next transfer window in the New Year will I think prove critical for the outcome of the season and where Everton will ultimately finish.

Obviously, everyone knows what the biggest problem for this Toffees’ team has been since the start of the campaign: the lack of attacking threat.

There are other issues of concern too, but the absence of enough goals has undermined the progress that has been made in other areas of the side.

According to this article, Lampard along with Director of Football Kevin Thelwell, have already identified several targets ready for when the window opens in just over a month’s time.

January is always a difficult window to try and sign players and this one will be no different as clubs compete to try to bring in fresh talent ready for the season run-in.

The Blues’ will also have to work with little wriggle room financially because of the club’s past dealings and chronic debt.

So, as in the summer smart dealing will be required to secure bargain signings similar to the additions of centre-backs James Tarkowski and Conor Coady, both brought in for free.

The World Cup may also throw up a few interesting options as it is a good shop window for players perhaps hoping for a move in January.

One forward being linked again with a possible move to Everton is Coventry City’s Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres currently perfoming well in the Championship.

Gyokeres has bagged nine goals so far this season, a decent return and Coventry understandably are very keen to keep hold of the Swede so they are looking to offer him a contract extension.

Of course, we don’t know whether Gyokeres is one of those players Lampard and Thelwell have identified as a target or not.

However, Everton will certainly be active in the New Year transfer window and perhaps hopefully they can get their deals done early to enable these new signings to settle more quickly.
