It’s no surprise that Everton wants to bolster their attack as the Toffees struggle with goalscoring issues. Frank Lampard’s side are in deep trouble as they sit in the drop zone and prepare for a survival battle in the second half of the Premier League. To add depth to the attack, Everton have reportedly made a bid for FC Lorient winger Dango Ouattara.
Everton have netted just 14 goals in 18 games. Goalscoring or the lack of it, in this case, has been one of the main reasons why the Merseysiders have fallen into the drop zone. They are the second lowest goalscoring side in the league right now and face a bleak future if the attack is not improved.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been plagued by injuries that have taken a toll on his confidence and match fitness. Even wingers Anthony Gordon, Dwight McNeil, and Demarai Gray have not been up to the mark.
The absence of attacking support from wingers has deprived the strikers of service and at the same time increasing the load on the strikers to score more goals. McNeil was signed after Richarlison departed in the summer but the former Burnley man has failed to provide the attacking presence that the Brazilian had in the opposition box.
Everton make a bid for Lorient winger Dango Ouattara
Gordon has bucket loads of potential but is simply not able to be effective in the final third. Gray has been decent in the last few games but still misses the final pass that is necessary. Support from the flanks needs to improve and Everton seem to be working in that direction.
According to Foot Mercato, Lorient attacker Ouattara is attracting interest from the Premier League. Ligue 1 outfit Lorient are doing well in the league, sitting sixth with 31 points. Ouattara has been one of the best performers for the French side, scoring five goals and assisting another five in 16 games.
Ouattara is being tracked by Everton and in fact, have already submitted a bid of €20 million to acquire the Burkinabe’s services. The negotiations continue between Lorient and the Toffees and so far no agreement has been reached. The 20 year old winger is capable of playing on either wing but the best version of himself is unleashed when deployed on the left wing.
The Toffees have also been linked to Lorient’s Terem Moffi, the forward who has netted 10 goals in Ligue 1 so far. Southampton are also in the hunt to sign Moffi and have already made a €10 million bid but it has been rejected. If Everton are interested in both the Lorient attackers, they will have to make offers soon.
