Club manager addresses links to £10.5 million Everton man who has slipped down the pecking order
Everton midfielder Tom Davies has slipped down the pecking order after the arrivals of Idrissa Gueye and Amadou Onana. The local lad might have to look elsewhere to get regular playing time and is reportedly wanted by Rangers.
Everton are hoping to sign players to improve their attack as the attacking output has been very dull. However, the financial constraints may force Everton to make sales and use that money for signing new players. There are some expendables in the side and they could be put for sale.
In the midfield, Frank Lampard has preferred a midfield three of Alex Iwobi, Onana and Gueye. The likes of James Garner, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Davies have remained rotational options. Doucoure has also been linked with a move away from the Toffees with Fulham emerging as one of the interested parties.
Now, Davies has also failed to cut into Lampard’s regular plans and there are teams who are willing to sign the Englishman in the winter transfer window. Everton do need to free up some funds to go big and sign attackers in the transfer window, and selling or loaning out players who are not an integral part of the first team could be a viable solution.
Rangers boss Michael Beale addresses links to Everton midfielder Tom Davies
Davies has been linked to Rangers and Rangers boss Michael Beale addressed the links to the Everton midfielder and gave a hint of Rangers’ transfer strategy in the January transfer window.
"No names but I think they are both good players to be fair. Todd [Cantwell] was an excellent player when he was young and playing against my Liverpool Under 23s.I thought he would go on and have a fantastic career. He had that at the start and he is maybe just looking for a move to re-ingite it but I think he is a fantastic player at a good age.And Tom Davies, he used to kick my Liverpool Under 23s team all around the place. There’s a bit of John Lundstram about him. But again, two really good players. Not confirming anything with those two. But there’s a lot of players we are speaking to at the moment. Davies’ contract runs out this summer and so far there has been little indication if the Toffees are going to offer a contract extension to the 24 year old. Even if Davies is loaned out for the rest of the season, the Toffees will free up some wages as Everton work on the incomings.
However, the recent injury to Iwobi might open the first team door to Davies. The Nigerian is side lined for three weeks and Davies might get opportunities to prove his talent and potentially make a case for a contract extension.
