Everton are in deep trouble and they have a little over a fortnight to chop and change the squad. If the Toffees are to stand any chance at surviving a relegation battle, they will need attacking reinforcements. Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma is an Everton target but the Merseysiders face stiff competition.

Everton expressed interest in signing Danjuma from Villarreal on a loan deal that included an option to buy clause. Soon, other English sides also joined the chase. Aston Villa manager Unai Emery knows Danjuma well from his managerial stint at Villarreal and wants to add the Dutchman to the ranks at Villa Park. In fact, Danjuma produced the best numbers in 2021-22 season at Villarreal under Emery’s tutelage.

Even Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Bournemouth have been linked with Danjuma. Under new Villarreal boss Quique Setien, the 25 year old is not a regular first team player, which has increased the chances of Everton, or any interested club, to sign him until the end of the season on loan.

Fabrizio Romano also confirmed Everton’s interest in the forward. The transfer guru revealed that Danjuma wants to move back to England and is considering his options on the table as five sides fight for his signature.

Everton target Arnaut Danjuma in England to discuss a move

Since Setien doesn’t count on Danjuma, Villarreal seem to be open to the idea of the Dutchman leaving the Spanish side on loan. With the player himself wanting a return to the Premier League, the race seems wide open between the teams. According to The Athletic, Villarreal have given Danjuma the permission to fly to the United Kingdom and discuss a loan move with potential suitors.

In fact, Danjuma has touched down in the UK and will discuss a temporary move with a buy option or a buy obligation. The former Bournemouth forward is contracted with Villarreal until 2026 so it will take a substantial fee for the Yellow Submarines to agree to a permanent move in the future.

Everton director of football, Kevin Thelwell, was reportedly in Villarreal to seal a move for Danjuma. However, some other reports suggest that he’s close to rejoining Bournemouth. The 25 year old has the ability to bombard from the left wing as well as operate effectively in the centre forward role.

Danjuma had impressive numbers last season, scoring 16 goals in 34 games. This term, he has netted six goals in 17 games, though his playing time has reduced, he continues to be efficient when given a chance.

Everton need a reliable goalscorer and Danjuma can be that, however, signing him won’t be a walk in the rose garden as competition intensifies.
