Everton need goals. Their poor goalscoring has landed them into deep waters and the way out is to reinforce the attack with a reliable and ruthless goalscorer. Lyon forward Moussa Dembele could be the one who solves the issue.
Everton are still to replace Richarlison, who left the Toffees in the summer to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Merseysiders are in a dire financial situation and cannot spend freely in the winter market. That is not the only problem that is bugging them.
Frank Lampard’s side have a survival battle to fight and the early signs do not offer much optimism. Lampard took over last January and engineered a miraculous escape from relegation on the penultimate match day. The Toffees find themselves in a similar predicament this season, hitting absolute rock bottom.
In order to come out of this mess, EFC needs to sign attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window. A striker should be the top priority in the transfer market and the Toffees have already been linked to a number of strikers.
Everton eyeing Lyon striker Moussa Dembele in a cut price deal
Since Everton cannot spend big in the transfer market, they must either look for loan deals or push to sign strikers who are available for dirt cheap valuation. Everton seem to have found a financially viable solution as they push to sign Dembele of Lyon.
According to GFFN, the Toffees are keen on signing out of favour Lyon forward Dembele in January. His contract is expiring at the end of the season and could walk out as a free agent in the summer. However, the January transfer window gives Lyon the last chance to get some fee for the 26 year old as there are takers for the Frenchman.
Last season, Dembele netted 21 Ligue 1 goals in 30 games, performing as one of the best strikers in France. However, the former Celtic man has fallen down the pecking order and has failed replicate last season’s form. Lyon boss Laurent Blanc prefers Alexandre Lacazette over Dembele in the starter’s role. The Frenchman has started just six games this season and came on as a substitute in eight and in the process scored two goals.
His form might have dropped but he still is lethal in the box and has the ability to score goals in succession as he showcased last season. Dembele’s market value is €18 million (£15.8 million) but there are chances that the Merseysiders can get the deal done for a lower price as Dembele’s contract expires in less than six months’ time.
Should EFC sign Moussa Dembele?
