A noted media source has claimed that Everton are very close to sealing a deal for Arnaut Danjuma as their first January signing.

Fabrizio Romano says that the details are nearly all sorted out and Danjuma is set for a medical before his move to Everton is completed. At the time of writing the Echo also says it’s done.

So, it looks as though the Blues’ are finally about to add another attacker to their squad. Of course, Toffees’ supporters won’t believe it until the whole thing is officially signed and sealed.

Danjuma is a player who we all hope can provide some long overdue improvement in Everton’s attacking play and goals too.

The Dutchman isn’t a hugely prolific goal-scorer although he has hit double figures in two past campaigns and so he should be the first of at least two forwards to be added in this window.

The details of the deal for him don’t include an option to buy and so it is just a straight loan for the rest of the season.

It would be typical of this club for Danjuma to now go on and have a superb next few months in a royal blue shirt and then go back to Spain or onto another club that can afford to buy the player.

Anyway, at least the Blues’ have made a much-needed start to strengthening their squad although he hasn’t been secured in time for today’s clash at West Ham.

Unlike their opponents who have added Dann Ings in time for today, the Toffees’ didn’t get this one sorted in time for the Premier League to register him and make him available to Frank Lampard to pick.

There are also stories circulating that Everton want another Villarreal player as well with renewed rumours that they are interested in Danjuma’s team-mate Boulaye Dia.

The Senegal striker was linked with the club in the summer, along with just about every other forward in Europe.

Nothing came of it but now this story has been revived with reports that the Blues’ might try and get Dia as well as Danjuma. We’ll see if this deal does happen too.

Danjuma can’t have any impact on today’s game at West Ham. And, depending on how this afternoon turns out he might well have second thoughts when he sees the desperate state his new team are in.
