Everton are set to announce the appointment of Sean Dyche. Now, with the appointment sorted, the Toffees will refocus on transfer targets as reinforcing the attack remains a priority. Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres has been an Everton target and the links have re-emerged after Dyche’s arrival.
Everton’s attacking woes have been highlighted in bold this season. 15 league goals in 20 games is disappointing and the Toffees need to start firing in front of the goal if they are to stand a chance of surviving the relegation battle. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been underwhelming and isn’t getting enough support from the flanks.
Anthony Gordon is also on his way to Newcastle United, with the Merseysiders getting a £40 million cheque for the Englishman. Gordon’s sale will allow Everton to sign players and give Dyche a fighting chance in the survival battle.
Signing a forward has been a priority, even more so, after Gordon’s departure. Everton have already missed out on Arnaut Danjuma after the Dutchman made a U-turn and joined Tottenham Hotspur.
Sean Dyche wants Viktor Gyokeres at Everton
According to Football League World, EFC are interested in signing Gyokeres from Coventry City. Dyche wants to strengthen the squad that he is inheriting and the former Burnley manager sees Gyokeres as a competent option to strengthen the side. Dyche has worked on a limited budget at Burnley but he will have a decent budget to work with, thanks to Gordon’s sale.
The Championship side value their striker for £18 million and it is unlikely they will budge from their valuation. Gyokeres has scored 12 goals in 27 Championship games and is in fine goalscoring form. Everton were also targeting Iliman Ndiaye from Sheffield United but the player has rejected the idea of joining the Toffees and instead wants to stay put at Bramall Lane.
Dyche has made Gyokeres a top transfer target but it remains to be seen if the Toffees will shell out £18 million for the Sweden international. Everton must sign at least two to three attacking options in the winter transfer window.
The Toffees are also eyeing a wide option and have been previously linked to Dango Ouattara, Tete and Anthony Elnaga. With Gordon’s departure, there’s even more need to sign a wide attacker as EFC only have Dwight McNeil, Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray as wide attacking options.
