Everton were left shocked when Arnaut Danjuma made a U-turn on his decision in the eleventh hour and ditched the Toffees in favour of a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Now, his arrival at Spurs could help Everton sign Lucas Moura in January.

The Merseysiders had been chasing Danjuma for a long time. Since the start of the winter transfer window, Everton were linked as potential suitors for the Dutchman along with clubs like Spurs and AFC Bournemouth. Danjuma even flew to London to hold talks with all the interested parties and it finally looked that Everton had beaten the competition as the 25 year old agreed for a move to Goodison Park.

Last weekend, he appeared for a medical and even performed the media duties as Everton geared up to announce the new signing. However, in the eleventh hour, Spurs came in and swooped in, stealing Danjuma from Everton. It is understood that the sacking of Lampard played a key role in Danjuma changing his decision.

The Toffees saw their weeks of efforts undone in just a few moments as they were now back to square one, evaluating targets and starting another transfer operation from scratch. Since then, Everton have been linked to a number of attackers as transfer window deadline day approaches.

Everton target Lucas Moura has outrageous wage demands

Spurs winger Lucas was linked with the Merseysiders a couple of weeks ago but nothing concrete came out of those links. Now, with the arrival of Sean Dyche at the helm, EFC are looking to reinforce their flanks, even more so, after Anthony Gordon’s departure to Newcastle United.

According to journalist Alan Nixon’s update on Patreon, Everton, Crystal Palace and Southampton are in pursuit of Lucas before the end of the winter transfer window. The 30 year old is set to become a free agent in the summer and has barely featured this season, playing just 314 minutes of football this season.

As per the report, Lucas wants one last lucrative contract as he looks set to leave Spurs. The Brazilian is set to demand £150,000 per week in wages as the player wants eyes a new chapter in his career.

The arrival of Danjuma at Tottenham will further limit Lucas’ inclusion in the team and there are no indications of him staying beyond the summer. Everton have been targeting Lucas and the arrival of Danjuma at Spurs could allow the Toffees to push for Lucas. However, the ask of £150,000 per week in wages is preposterous and cannot be entertained at any costs.

He is valued at €12 million by Transfermarkt but will be available for a lot cheaper as Spurs are looking to offload him, however, Everton cannot offer such a well-paid contract to the Brazilian.
