Boost for Everton as potential £17m Anthony Gordon replacement eager to leave Ligue 1
Everton sold Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United for £40 million plus £5 million in add-ons after the 21 year old submitted a transfer request. With Gordon’s departure, Everton are searching for a replacement and views Stade Rennais winger Kamaldeen Sulemana as a viable candidate.
Everton seem to have been crippled in attack this season. They have the second lowest goal tally in the Premier League and have the lowest number of wins this season. A major reason for their incapability to win games is the toothless attack. The strikers have surely been underwhelming but there hasn’t been much support from the flanks either.
With Gordon’s departure, the Toffees are also short on wide options, leaving Dwight McNeil and Demarai Gray as only fit and available wingers. The Merseysiders need to sign at least one wide man who can add some goalscoring threat and support the strikers.
Hakim Ziyech is a player that Everton really like but the deal will be complex even though Chelsea are ready to part ways with the Moroccan. Convincing the 29 year old to join a team that is battling relegation won’t be an easy task as there are other suitors who can offer European football to him.
Everton target Kamaldeen Sulemana will push to leave Stade Rennais
Everton have also been linked to Stade Rennais attacker Sulemana. Yesterday, a report emerged that the Toffees made some progress in the chase of the 20 year old as some inroads had been made with the player’s entourage.
According to Fabrizio Romano (via Give Me Sport), the Ghanaian winger is eager to move and is willing to make a push from his end to get a transfer ahead of the transfer deadline day. A number of English clubs are in the chase and Sulemana will try from his end to seal a departure but as of now no deal has been agreed upon with any club.
This will surely give EFC a transfer boost if they are serious in their pursuit of the 20 year old winger. Southampton have been keen on Sulemana and have already seen their £17 million bid rejected. Stade Rennais are have no intention to sell Sulemana but the player seems to have made up his mind and is going to push for an exit.
The Ghanaian is definitely going to be a risky buy should Everton indulge in signing the winger. He is still unproven on multiple fronts and despite showing a lot of promise, is far from being a finished product. He surely will add pace and agility to the Everton attack but at this point in time, the club needs more than just pace. They need to sign players who will be capable of handling the relegation pressure and delivering in times of crisis.
Will Everton manage to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana?
