Everton are in the hunt for a striker as they prepare for an ugly relegation battle. Sean Dyche has been appointed as the new Everton manager and signing a forward is a priority for him. Olympique Lyon striker Moussa Dembele is linked to Everton but could be headed elsewhere.
The Toffees have been desperate to reinforce their attack after the cracks in the frontline have been glaringly visible. 15 league goals doesn’t give much assurance and something needs to be changed up top or Everton’s future in the Premier League is under serious threat. Strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay have two league goals between them and neither of them have put in hearty performances during the season.
Everton have been strongly linked with names like Viktor Gyokers, Che Adams and Michail Antonio since Dyche took over the reins at Goodison Park. On the flanks, Kamaldeen Sulemana seems to be the player that EFC are targeting as the Ghanaian remains open to a Premier League move.
Everton have been blessed with a cheque of £40 million through Anthony Gordon’s sale and the money must be reinvested in the winter transfer window to reinforce the squad. While the money will allow the Toffees to pursue multiple deals and strengthen multiple positions, they should always be on the lookout for cut price deals.
Everton target Moussa Dembele could be on his way to Southampton
Lyon striker Dembele is looking to leave the Ligue 1 side after slipping down the pecking order. The Toffees seemed keen on the idea of signing the 26 year old, who has been out of favour at Lyon. What acts as a cherry on the cake is that his contract expires in the summer and could be available for a cheap price as Lyon might not want to lose him on a free transfer in the summer.
Last season, he was Lyon’s main man, netting 21 goals in the French league. However, the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette meant that Dembele is no longer the starting option and has just made just seven starts all season, netting twice in the process.
However, Everton may miss out on a bargain deal as Southampton seem to be closing in on Dembele. According to Football Scotland, the Saints have tabled a £3 million bid for the former Celtic striker and the Les Gones have accepted the offer. The ball is now in Dembele’s court as he has to decide if he wants to move to Saint Mary’s Stadium.
For a price of £3 million, Everton should not waste time and make an attempt to sign the 26 year old. He is valued at £15.8 million but is available for a cut price because this is Lyon’s last chance of acquiring a fee for Dembele. Economically, it is a low risk deal and Dembele has the traits of becoming the ruthless striker that Everton needs.
