Everton owner Farhad Moshiri has been rumoured to be open to selling the club or attracting investments for the club. In the last few months, multiple reports have surfaced claiming that Moshiri is actively looking for investors and has held talks with multiple investment firms and potential owners.
Moshiri bought 49.9% stake in 2016 and since then has kept on increasing his stake, buying off the club debt. His holdings has reached 94% and has bankrolled over £500 million in transfers and in the construction of the new stadium Bramley-Moore Dock. In 2022, Moshiri did hold some exclusive talks to sell the club to a consortium led by Peter Kenyon, despite sending a message to the fans that the club is not for sale.
Later in 2022, Maciek Kaminski was seen as a potential buyer as the Talon Real Estate chief executive was discussing £400 million takeover of the club. Soon LAMF Global Ventures group led by Jeffery Soros also came into the picture as preliminary talks were held.
Moshiri has always been open to the idea of a new investment as the new stadium takes shape and funds will be needed for stadium completion. The talks of an investment or even a takeover died down for some time but another US investment firm has recently been linked.
US firm was present at an Everton game amid investment talks
The Toffees are going through a turbulent spell on and off the pitch. There is turmoil among the fans over the lack of clarity and vision under Moshiri’s ownership and their dead silence over failures of the club has only gone onto make the situation worse. On the pitch, Everton are staring at relegation for the first time in 70 years, sitting 19th in 20 Premier League games.
Much needed investment is needed and Moshiri is actively looking to dilute some part of his stake to get investors on board. As per Telegraph, Moorad Sports Partners (MSP) are a US based investment firm specializing in investments in sports teams and leagues across the world. MSP is an interested party and are exploring the idea of pumping money into Everton.
According to journalist Paul Brown, an investment might come sooner than later for Everton. In fact, an American group was present at a recent Everton game, adding weight to the talks of new investors.
"Farhad Moshiri is in talks with an American group who were at an Everton game recently, and that does seem to have legs. They have a quite high profile PR firm working for them who have had all inquiries redirected to them and are currently saying no comment publicly on any of the stories about their interests. That to me suggests that it is genuine because that’s how they do business. (via Give Me Sport)"
