Everton had been desperately searching for strikers in the winter transfer window. The lack of goalscoring has been a major issue for the Toffees this season and in order to solve it, they were looking at forwards in winter market. Everton asked about Villarreal striker Boulaye Dia who is on loan at Salernitana.

Everton have just netted 16 goals in 22 Premier games this season with strikers Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay underperforming throughout the season. Calvert-Lewin has missed 11 games because of injury and could miss more games as he continues to battle the hamstring tightness issue.

Maupay on the other hand has not provided anything substantial in attack and has been regarded as a transfer failure after his £15 million move to Goodison Park from Brighton last summer. Both the strikers have scored a total of two goals in the league in over 1200 minutes of football.

Signing a striker will be of utmost importance in the summer but first, the Toffees need to secure their Premier League status for next season. Attracting fine talent will be a daunting task if Everton drop to the Championship.

Salernitana will take decision about Everton target Boulaye Dia in the summer

Some of the winter transfer targets are being followed by Everton with Dia being a striker they are closely looking at. Salernitana managed to get Dia on loan from Villarreal in the summer and have an option to buy for €12 million at the end of this season. The Merseysiders have been linked with the Senegalese forward and have been keeping tabs on the 26 year old.

According to Tutto Salernitana, EFC came forward in the winter to sign the Senegalese striker. However, that would have been a complex operation given he was on loan from Villarreal. The Serie A club will need to pay €12 million in the summer to sign Dia, who is already valued at €20 million.

The Italians will decide at the end of the season whether to buy him and sell him immediately for a profit or to build the attack around him. In any case, Everton remain admirers of Dia and if they manage to stay in the Premier League, enticing the 26 year old will be slightly easier.

The injury struggles of Calvert-Lewin make it almost mandatory for the Toffees to sign a striker in the summer. The Englishman needs support from a reliable goal scorer and Dia could be a viable candidate but this plot will only develop in the summer.
