Everton summer transfer plans hint at the end of £10.6m man’s time at Goodison Park
It is no surprise that Everton are already working on the summer transfer window and have loosely been linked to a set of players recently. From the looks of it, Everton seem prepared to let Tom Davies leave in the summer as his deal runs out at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Davies has risen through the ranks at Everton, making his debut in 2016 under Roberto Martinez. Davies was one of the most promising midfielders emerging out of the academy setup and was an integral part of the U21 side before making the jump to the senior team.
Under Ronald Koeman, Davies started to become a regular in the Everton team, starting 18 games in the 2016-17 season. The local boy from Merseyside was talented and was destined for a top career if he played his cards right. Certainly, that was a prediction but things didn’t go as per plan. Davies remained in the plans of Marco Silva, Sam Allardyce, Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard but he was never an undisputed starter or an integral part of the team.

In recent times, the Englishman has seen his role limit to that of a substitute and an occasional starter. Even under new boss Sean Dyche, Davies has come on as a sub as the 51 year old continues to prefer the sturdy midfield of Idrissa Gueye, Amadou Onana and Abdoulaye Doucoure.
Davies’ contract is expiring at the end of the season and there have been few indications over his renewal. Davies last signed a contract extension in 2019 and earns roughly £1.3 million a year. From Everton’s transfer plans it seems that they are willing to let Davies leave and a renewal will not be on the cards.
Recently, Everton have been linked with a number of central midfielders, hinting at Toffees’ area of focus in the summer. The Merseysiders have been linked to Dennis Geiger of Hoffenheim who is also set to become a free agent in the summer. Everton are keeping tabs on the 24 year old but could face competition from Benfica and Eintracht Frankfurt.
Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi is an exciting midfielder who is attracting interest from Everton and a couple of other Premier League sides. The Serie A side values him at €35 million and could be sold in the summer if the buyer comes with the cheque.
Florentino Luis of Benfica is the latest name to be associated with a move to Everton as the Toffees sent scouts to watch the 23 year old central midfielder at a Benfica game. The Merseysiders admire him but any offers will be knocked back by Benfica as they will only sit down for possible negotiations in the summer.
Perhaps, it is best for Davies to turn the page and start a new chapter elsewhere. Even Doucoure’s contract is expiring but the club could trigger a one year extension, especially after his resurgent displays under Dyche.
