Everton were looking to add a winger to their roster in the January transfer window in a bid to reinforce the attack. The departure of Anthony Gordon to Newcastle fastened the process as the Toffees looked at Ryan Fraser as a possible replacement for Gordon.

Wingers like Dango Ouattara were linked with the Toffees with the club also making a bid but the 20 year old speedster has ended up signing for AFC Bournemouth. The Merseysiders also tried to bring Anthony Elanga on loan while also pursuing Kamaldeen Sulemana on deadline day. Sulemana joined Southampton and Everton were left without a Gordon replacement.

Everton also eyed an ambitious move for Hakim Ziyech of Chelsea but the chances of such a deal were close to nil. Even though there are optimistic signs of EFC escaping relegation under Sean Dyche, Everton cannot risk getting into a similar predicament next season. This is why they need attacking reinforcements in the summer.

Everton could sign Ryan Fraser in the summer

Newcastle United winger Fraser was on Everton’s shortlist in the winter transfer window. The 28 year old has seen limited game time this season as the likes of Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have jumped Fraser in the pecking order. The Scotsman has played just 311 minutes of Premier League football and has been open to a new adventure.

According to TEAM TALK, Fraser seems to have hit a new low in his Newcastle career as he has been banished from the first team set up and is with the U21 side ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester United.

The Magpies believe that the 28 year old doesn’t have a future at the club and is not a part of the future project. Newcastle United are keen to offload him and Fraser himself is looking to leave St. James’ Park.

This is where Everton could come in and make a swoop for the Scottish winger. EFC were strongly linked with him in January and come this summer, they could reactivate the file. The Toffees will have a free shot at signing Fraser as there will be no hurdles from Newcastle’s end.

Everton have four wingers in their squad – Dwight McNeil, Demarai Gray, Andros Townsend and Alex Iwobi who can play in the middle as well as on the flank. Townsend has been injured and out of action for almost a year now and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Dyche will look at new wingers in the market and Fraser could strike as a decent option.

The player’s contract runs till 2025 and is valued at £8.8 million by Transfermarkt but he could be sold for a lot less given Newcastle’s desire to get rid of the Scotsman in the summer. Everton could possibly sign Fraser on a cheap deal, which wouldn’t be bad business, as long as he isn’t the only winger that he signed.
