Everton have been closely following Coventry striker Viktor Gyokeres for a long time. Reports emerged before the winter transfer window that the Toffees are looking for a striker and have considered signing Gyokeres.
Everton had been frantically exploring the transfer market to sign a striker in the winter transfer window as reinforcements were needed in the squad. The Toffees were at a greater risk of relegation in January and signing a striker was deemed necessary in order to turn the club’s fortunes.
The arrival of Sean Dyche and the subsequent turn in form does not mask the fact that Everton need a striker. Dominic Calvert-Lewin continues to recuperate from injury but the recurring injuries have taken a hit on his sharpness and confidence. Neal Maupay has been underwhelming and his departure in the summer is not ruled out.
Everton have already made enquiries for Viktor Gyokeres
Come this summer, Everton will look to sign a striker in order to provide support for Calvert-Lewin. When Richarlison was at Goodison Park, Calvert-Lewin had the Brazilian’s goalscoring support. In games where DCL wasn’t fit or wasn’t firing, Richarlison took over and made sure that the Toffees have a reliable presence up top.
According to 90min, Everton and four other Premier League sides are monitoring Coventry City striker Gyokeres. The Swedish international has netted 19 goals and provided eight assists in 39 games this season and is the second highest goalscorer in the Championship.
Coventry are aware of the interest in Gyokeres and are bracing for number of offers for the 24 year old this summer. The Championship side will ask for a fee of around £20 million, which is higher than their £18 million asking price in January.
Everton have already made inquiries for Gyokeres and are expected to retain their interest till the summer. The Toffees face competition from Brentford, Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Leicester City in the summer and the list of interested parties is expected to increase.
Gyokeres will benefit highly from Sean Dyche’s setup and he is typically a player that the former Burnley manager would prefer. He has created the most goal creating actions (19), registered the most progressive carries (166), most carries in the penalty area (115) and recorded the most progressive passes (404) in the Championship.
He doesn’t shy away from working hard on and off the ball and makes sure that he is in and around the goal area to drill any available chances. If Everton can get their hands on Gyokeres, they will have their frontline secured for years to come.
Will EFC manage to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer?
