On a quiet Bank Holiday Monday, media stories have re-surfaced with Everton once more being associated with summer moves for several strikers in Europe.
The names mentioned are ones we’ve seen a number of times over the last few weeks and months, especially during the January transfer window.
In particular, Moussa Dembele is again a name being mentioned. The Lyon striker was one of those supposedly targetted by Everton in the January window.
This wasn’t an exclusive group of forwards however, as the number of players who were linked with a possible transfer to Goodison Park, were many and varied.
At one point as the transfer window wound down on that final chaotic deadline day, it seemed as though nearly every forward imaginable was.
Of course, despite frantic, almost farcical efforts, none of them were signed and the Blues ended up with no additions when the window shut.
It is clear to everyone that the Toffees’ need some serious help up front with their constant struggles scoring goals proving a major reason for the team’s current position near the bottom of the Premier League.
Having said that last weekend’s defeat at Old Trafford underlined that Everton’s problems are not all about their weak and dysfunctional attack.
Major surgery is required for this side to become truly competitive in the Premier League once more and there is plenty of work to be done when the summer comes round.
Whether any if the forwards mentioned once more in these stories would represent a solid investment and help to improve the Blues’ attacking threat and goal-scoring ability is open to question.
More names will no doubt surface before the season is over and the summer transfer window opens in earnest.
The latest name again in circulation is Samuel Chukwueze of Villareal. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward is apparently attracting plenty of interest from Premier League clubs, including supposedly the Blues’. His quoted price tag makes this an obvious no-go.
One question is though can the Toffees’ secure who they want after what happened in January.
But, whatever happens in terms of transfer dealings will obviously be dependent on wheter Everton are still in the top flight or the Championship.
