Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford who is now one of the senior players at the club recently extended his deal that runs till 2027. The Englishman is one of the best in the business and has retained the position of England’s No.1 keeper despite being challenged by Nick Pope and Aaron Ramsdale.

Pickford signed a four and a half year extension in February and if does remain at Everton till his contract ends, he would have ended up staying at the club for over 10 years. At the time of contract extension, Pickford did claim that he wanted to have a legacy at Everton like Neville Southall.

Everton are in a dire situation as they are still not safe from relegation. The Toffees sit 17th in the Premier League table with 27 points, only ahead than 18th placed Nottingham Forest because of the goal difference. The risk of relegation very much remains and in the worst case scenario, Everton may see some of their best players leave in the fire sale.

Jordan Pickford could leave if Everton are relegated

Players like Amadou Onana, Jordan Pickford and Alex Iwobi, who have been crucial for the Everton side this season could leave if the Toffees suffer relegation. They are too good to be in the Championship and they will definitely have suitors in the Premier League and abroad.

Pickford was linked to Chelsea a week ago as the London side is looking to shuffle their goalkeeping options in the summer. Chelsea will look to offload either Kepa Arrizabalaga or Edouard Mendy and are drawing a shortlist to bring a new goalkeeper.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, David Raya and Robert Sanchez are high up on Chelsea’s shortlist. However, Everton’s Pickford is also one to watch. Even though there is no relegation release clause in his contract, the club and Pickford have a verbal agreement that he’ll be allowed to leave if the Toffees are relegated.

The 29 year old was also subject to interest from Tottenham Hotspur as they search for Hugo Lloris’ successor. Pickford leaving the Toffees will be a huge blow as he is one of the best players in the squad and the club have never prepared for a replacement to the 29 year old.

It all depends on Everton’s position at the end of the season and if they do find themselves in the bottom three, chances of a fire sale will be high.
