£30m Everton ace on top of shortlist for Champions League side
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has been one of the best keepers in the Premier League over the last few years. His splendid performances have been a key reason why Everton have succeeded in avoiding relegation for the last two seasons. Gone are the days when Pickford’s buttery fingers and error-prone nature attracted slander from a certain faction of fans.
Pickford has been Everton’s saviour on several occasions this season. He has kept eight clean sheets but has produced some spectacular saves during games that have kept Everton alive and running.
The Englishman has made 123 saves in the 2022-23 season, which is the third best in the league. He has a save percentage of 71.3% and has eight clean sheets to his name. Pickford also ranks third in the progressive passing distance. The 29 year old is hands down one of Everton’s best players and one of the league’s best goalkeepers.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is a top priority for Manchester United
His contract was expiring in the summer of 2024 and he was yet to sign a contract extension. Uncertainty over his contract coupled with Everton’s relegation battle gave rise to speculations over his future at Goodison Park. Tottenham Hotspur wanted to take advantage of the situation and sign the Englishman as a replacement for Hugo Lloris. Chelsea had also been keeping tabs on Pickford as they looked set to overhaul the goalkeeping department.
Quashing all the doubts and rumours, Pickford signed a new deal that would keep him at Everton until 2027. However, this hasn’t stopped him from getting linked with a move away. With Lloris confirming that he will look to leave Spurs, the North London club is looking for a replacement and view Pickford as one of the options.
Spurs are not alone that are keen to sign Pickford. According to talkSPORT, Manchester United are looking to replace David De Gea this summer and Pickford is on top of their wish list. The report further adds that the Toffees could sell Pickford around £30 million. De Gea’s contract is expiring this summer but a one year extension can be triggered. MUFC have been carrying out their checks on Pickford and he has emerged as the top contender to replace the Spanish goalkeeper.
United will be playing Champions League football next season and Pickford could have the chance to play in the prestigious competition. Regardless of De Gea’s future, the Red Devils want to sign Pickford this summer. If Everton are to avoid a third consecutive relegation battle, they need to retain their best players and strengthen the squad.
