According to stories energing today, Everton are ready to make a solid bid for Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres, after weeks of speculation about the Coventry player’s future.

Gyokeres has of course been almost endlessly linked with the Toffees since January, although also with several other Premier League sides as well.

Since this current transfer window opened Everton have again been constantly associated with a move for a forward who bagged an impressive twenty-one goals last season.

Recently though, there have been persistent rumours that Portuguese side Sporting are also very much in the hunt for the 25-year-old.

I think the Swede would make a good option for the Blues as they search for goalscoring reinforcements in this window.

Of course, he hasn’t scored goals in the top flight, but he looks to have all the tools to do so and is ready for a step up in standard now.

Having said all that, it seems highly doubtful that this report is correct though and I would be very surprised if Everton did indeed do anything concrete to sign Gyokeres, or any other lpayer, this week.

As usual despite the constant stories doing the rounds in the media, the Toffees are slow to get off the mark as other clubs make their moves.

Everything appears to hinge on getting to the end of the month and the current financial year. At this point the Blues could see an easing of the restrictions they have been under recently.

In addition, there may have to be player sales before any funds will be released for Sean Dyche to make new additions to the squad.

Jordan Pickford is supposedly a target for Manchester United although it seems no firm bid has been lodged as yet.

One other forward Everton were supposed to be tracking is also still on the radar, although reports about him are conflicting.

Udinese forward Beto has been another constant transfer link over the past few weeks, but apparently the Toffees had cooled their interest in the Portuguese player.

However, this morning fresh reports claim the Blues are still monitoring him.

Gyokeres seems the better bet and I really hope, against all expectation, that Everton are prepared to pull out the stops to get him.
