After a frightening campaign in the Premier League, Everton needs to put itself in a position to avoid another season full of nail-biting matches. High roster turnover is expected by the fans and it’s Sean Dyche’s job to improve the squad, which needs to happen on many fronts. This includes making decisions on contracts expiring this summer. Tom Davies is set to leave the club.
News has already broken pertaining to contract expirees Yerry Mina, Asmir Begovic, and Andros Townsend, who will be leaving the club.
Midfielder Davies has declined a new contract offer from Everton and will become a free agent in the coming days. Only 24 years old, Davies made 20 appearances this past season, and only four of them in the starting XI. He began his career in Merseyside as a youth academy player at age 11. He made his debut at age 17 in 2016. The local lad became the youngest captain in club history at 20 years old. He made 179 appearances, netting seven goals.
Tom Davies will leave Everton this summer
Tom Davies is looking for first-team chances, and he will not get it as a Toffee as it stands. With Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gana Gueye, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and James Garner in the fold, Davies would have a hard time getting the minutes he is looking for. He was unable to bring consistent quality when on the pitch and was never able to take hold of the hole in midfield Everton has had in recent seasons.
According to Gazzetta (via Sport Witness), Davies had been offered a three-year contract from Serie A side Monza. Monza finished middle table in Serie A, and signing a young and hungry midfielder like Davies would improve their squad.
Davies could also use some consistent coaching from the manager, as Everton has brought in several managers during his time and that can be detrimental to any young player. A change of scenery may turn his career in a different direction, maybe toward the lofty expectations put on him.
With this decision made, Everton can move on to continue to work to improve the squad, specifically attacking options and defenders. With strict financial room, Everton will have to choose wisely as to who they sign in the summer. Hopefully, the fans are not left without new players in the team like they were in the last transfer window.
