The transfer window is open but Everton have been pretty slow in the early days of the window as the financial problems continue to haunt the club. The Toffees continue to be linked with a number of players with Lyon midfielder Romain Faivre being the latest name to be associated with a move to Goodison Park.

Faivre spent the second half of the season on loan at Lorient, making 17 appearances and netting five goals in the process. He also recorded three assists as the 24 year old impressed with his attacking abilities in a number of positions.

After the resounding success during the loan spell, Lorient wants to sign Faivre permanently this summer. Faivre’s arrival at Lorient helped Les Merlus minimize the loss of Dango Ouattara who joined Bournemouth in the summer.

Lyon loaned him without an option to buy so Faivre will return to Groupama Stadium. Not only Lorient but there are sides from England, Germany and Italy are also tracking the Frenchman. According to Foot Mercato, Everton are one of the three English sides interested in signing the 24 year old. Crystal Palace and Fulham are also keeping an eye on the Frenchman.

Lyon are in financial trouble and need to raise funds. They are willing to sell Faivre but would ask for at least £12.8 million for the 24 year old. Lyon would sell Faivre to the highest bidder which means that Everton will be locked in a transfer battle should they decide to launch serious attempts at signing the midfielder.

The Frenchman is a versatile player capable of playing out wide as well as an attacking midfielder. Everton do not have an attacking midfielder in their ranks. Perhaps, Alex Iwobi is the only creator in the side who has been creating chances for the Toffees. Under Sean Dyche, Iwobi has played on the right flank, which diminishes his impact in the middle.

Faivre’s arrival could help EFC create more chances in the attack and his raw ability to slot out wide as well as No.10 gives the team depth in those positions. Dyche prefers a midfield of Amadou Onana, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Idrissa Gueye but none of them can create efficient chances. Faivre could change that but EFC will not like to be dragged into a transfer battle as they themselves have limited resources.
