Simms for Gyokeres deal would seem to make sense for Everton
Fresh reports today are claiming Everton could use Ellis Simms as a makeweight to secure a long-rumoured move for Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres.
This potential transfer is one I would really like to see happen this summer, although of course no one knows if Sean Dyche is going to be targetting the Swedish striker or not.
Using Simms to help sweeten the deal could well be a means for Everton to get this one over the line quickly, if these reports have any foundation to them.
Simms has really struggled to make any impact in the first-team under both Frank Lampard and Dyche, who despite giving him a few very limited chances where he showed flashes of his ability, doesn’t seem to have much confidence in the youth team graduate.
So, his future is most likely to be away from Goodison Park. This is what at first happened last season when he went out on loan to Sunderland before being recalled for the campaign run-in.
As for Gyokeres he has been the subject of constant rumours that the Toffees are interested in him since at least the beginning of this year.
The Swede has just come off a stellar season in the Championship where he scored twenty-one times for promotion-chasing Coventry City.
The Sky Blues failed to gain promotion after a play-off final defeat to Luton Town and so it does appear to be inevitable that their most prized asset will move on this summer.
Gyokeres certainly does look as though he fits the bill for what Everton need.
The 25-year-old is a quick, powerful and two-footed forward who also is strong in the air and obviously most of all, simply scores goals.
After supposedly failing in an attempt to sign the Swedish star in January, the rumour mill continues to link the Blues with him now the summer window has opened.
Given his ability, age and experience he fits the profile of the ideal type of striker the Toffees need to be in the hunt for now.
With Everton still facing huge uncertainty and significant financial restraints, perhaps a Simms plus cash deal for Gyokeres might swing it and make the transfer happen.
