Everton’s striker shortlist is not restricted to just strikers in England and Europe, with the Toffees also keeping an eye on the MLS. Cincinnati FC striker Brandon Vazquez is also a striker that is admired by Everton but a move looks very difficult this summer.
Everton’s problems in the attack have been crystal clear and reinforcing the attack remains the top agenda for Sean Dyche and Everton this summer. Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed 21 Premier League games because of injuries, leaving EFC without a reliable starting striker. Neal Maupay has not fired at Goodison Park and the chances of him leaving after a disastrous season are high.
The Toffees cannot go big in the transfer market and although they have been linked with names like Folarin Balogun and Viktor Gyokeres, the deal is difficult from a financial point of view. Perhaps, Cincinnati striker Vazquez could have been a viable option but the MLS side are not willing to sanction any sale.
Everton target Brandon Vazquez unlikely to move this summer
Everton are not the only side keeping an eye on the USMNT star. Bundesliga side Borussia Monchengladbach have been interested in Vazquez after his stellar campaign last season. The 24 year old is one of the hottest properties in MLS as he netted 18 goals in 34 outings last season. His exploits in the Eastern Conference haven’t gone unnoticed as clubs for Europe have been tracking Vazquez.
According to Mirror, Everton and Borussia Monchengladbach have been monitoring Vazquez’s situation with regards to his availability this summer. Monchengladbach also sent representatives to watch Vazquez and meet him to convince him of the project in Germany. The 24 year old striker even agreed to personal terms with Borussia Monchengladbach but FC Cincinnati have rejected the bid and blocked the transfer.
The MLS franchise is reluctant to let Vazquez leave before the end of the season as they look to go all out to win the MLS Cup. Cincinnati attacker Brenner will also leave this summer and the MLS club do not want to lose two of their top talents in one go, especially when they have a solid chance of winning the MLS Cup.
Perhaps, Everton trail in Vazquez race as the 24 year old had agreed to personal terms with Monchengladbach but with the deal rejected, the Toffees may have another chance of shooting their shot. However, Cincinnati’s reticent nature could prove to be a stumbling block and if they cannot get Vazquez this summer, it will be best to move on and look for other targets.
