Everton must add pace to their attack and given the lack of depth in the attack, the Toffees must prioritize reinforcing the attack. Everton do not have a good record with Arnaut Danjuma as the player made a drastic U-turn on an Everton move in January.
Back in the winter transfer window, the Toffees were looking to sign a forward and Villarreal winger Danjuma was on their radar. After negotiations, EFC finally managed to secure the Dutchman on a loan deal until the end of the season. Danjuma underwent Everton medicals and even recorded the media interview. Suddenly, Frank Lampard was sacked and the 26 year old decided to not sign the contract and perform a U-turn. Almost instantly, Tottenham made the move and hijacked the deal to sign the winger.
Danjuma signed for Spurs but had a forgetful loan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. He played just 12 times, amounting to 198 minutes of football for Tottenham, with the loan move being regarded as a huge disappointment.
Everton reignite their interest in Villarreal winger Arnaut Danjuma
Everton’s priorities haven’t changed this summer. They will need to sign a winger as Sean Dyche has just three wingers in his squad – Alex Iwobi, Demarai Gray and Dwight McNeil. Gray is being linked with an exit as Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal have shown interest in the Jamaican winger. Andros Townsend has left as a free agent and if Gray is sold. EFC will be left with just two wide options.
The Merseysiders seem to have forgotten the Danjuma fiasco and are keen to sign him this summer. According to Daily Mail, the Dutch winger has emerged as a target for Dyche’s side just five months after he abandoned the move to Goodison Park. The report further adds that there is no bad blood between Everton and Danjuma despite the dramatic U-turn in the winter transfer window.
The 26 year old has returned to Villarreal after his loan deal expired on 30th June. The Spanish side is willing to sell the winger and EFC are one of several clubs showing interest in the Dutchman. Everton are expected to open talks with Danjuma’s agents as they look to sign him from Villarreal, however, the La Liga side will not sell him for cheap as they paid £21.3 million for him two years ago.
Danjuma offers pace on the flanks and also has the ability to operate in the centre. He is not a traditional No.9 but he can operate in the position if there’s a need.
