Everton announced the signing of Ashley Young on a free transfer. The arrival of the veteran adds squad depth to the full back position but he cannot be a long term solution to EFC’s depth issues in the full back department. Sassuolo left back Rogerio is a player being followed by Everton.
In the final game of the 2022-23 season, where Everton’s Premier League fate hung in the air, the Toffees went into the game without a traditional full back in the team. Seamus Coleman and Nathan Patterson had suffered injuries and were out of the squad. Vitaliy Mykolenko also missed the game because of muscle injury, leaving Sean Dyche with no options but to come up with unorthodox solutions. James Garner started as a right wing back whereas Dwight McNeil was deployed in the left wing back role.
Lack of depth in the full back positions have always been a matter of concern for Everton, especially in the last few seasons. In the left back role, EFC have just Mykolenko to bank on. Last summer, the Toffees signed Ruben Vinagre on loan but the former Wolves defender failed to impress and remained on the bench for majority of the season.
Everton will have to pay upwards of €10m to sign Sassuolo left back Rogerio
The sale of Niels Nkounkou has left Everton without a backup for Mykolenko. A few days ago, the Merseysiders were linked with AC Milan left back Fode Ballo-Toure who is expected to leave Milan this summer. The left back remained in the shadows of Theo Hernandez since his move from AS Monaco in 2021. He would cost around €5 million as Milan are ready to part ways with the Senegal international.
Now, the Toffees have been linked with Saussolo left back Rogerio. According to Gianluca di Marzio, Sassuolo are reluctant to let Rogerio leave this summer. They have blocked an offer from Galatasaray as the Turkish side eventually ended up signing Angelino. The Serie A side doesn’t want to sell Rogerio for less than €10 million.
The Brazilian has is in the final 12 months of his deal at Sassuolo and his agent has communicated with the club that the 25 year old will not renew his deal at the Mapei Stadium. As per Tutto Mercato web, Everton are following the case of Rogerio along with Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund and Benfica. It will take a bid higher than €10 million to get Sassuolo interested in considering a sale for the Brazilian left back.
Should EFC sign Rogerio?
