With transfer rumours flying around like confetti today Everton were claimed to have made a bid for Anthony Elenga only for the story to be revised later.
It is of course silly season whenever the transfer window opens and particularly when it comes to this club and the stories related to it.
This latest one was based on a BBC report that Everton had put a concrete bid on the table for the Manchester United player.
Then, the story changed to the Blues having expressed interest in the Swedish forward rather than making a direct bid.
Elanga was a forward strongly linked with the Toffees in the last transfer window and some reports then indicated Everton had gone a long way to sort out a deal to bring him in on loan for the remainder of the season.
In January it didn’t happen as United boss Erik ten Hag decided to keep Elanga at Old Trafford, rather than let him leave.
However, Elanga again couldn’t find a regular place in United’s team and it does seem quite likely he will leave for pastures new this summer. Might that be Goodison Park?
To be honest I am not really sure why Everton would be so keen on the Swede as his numbers certainly don’t bowl you over.
He managed only two goals in twenty-nine appearances across all competitions last season, although to be fair many of those were as a substitute.
In fact, Elanga has never been prolific and two goals in a campaign are the most he has ever managed in his career to date.
There are many other alledged targets on Sean Dyche and Kevin Thelwell’s radar and while not all of them make sense for me, I think some of those would make a better bet for the Blues than Elanga.
