Everton have been hunting for a striker in this transfer window as Sean Dyche aims to remodel the strike force. The Toffees need a reliable goalscorer in their team and consider Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker Victor Boniface as an attainable target.
The Merseysiders have already been handed a blow in striker chase when they failed to sign Viktor Gyokeres, who eventually signed for Sporting. EFC have also been in contact to sign Almeria forward El Bilal Toure but there is considerable competition for the Malian forward as Atalanta remain keen too. The Toffees have received a boost in Iliman Ndiaye chase, as the deal has almost collapsed with Marseille.
Dyche does not want to gamble on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fitness and wants to sign two strikers this summer. The Toffees struggled massively in front of the goal last season, netting just 34 goals in 38 Premier League games. Everton’s main strikers, Calvert-Lewin and Neal Maupay, netted just one goal each throughout the campaign, increasing the goalscoring burden on wingers and midfielders.
In a bid to avoid the repeat of last season, the Merseysiders are looking at USG striker Boniface. A few days ago, a report claimed that EFC made initial enquiries for the Nigerian striker. Although, no formal approach has been made by Everton, they did ask for information about the 22 year old. At the moment there is no offer on the table but the Union Saint-Gilloise striker remains open to a move.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Bayer Leverkusen have also joined the race to sign Boniface. The Nigerian remains keen on a move away from Union Saint-Gilloise. Boniface was one of the best players for USG last season as the Belgian side narrowly missed out on the league title. The 22 year old netted 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 55 games last season, with Boniface also ending the Europa League as the competition’s top scorer with six goals, tied with Marcus Rashford.
He is valued at £10.3 million by Transfermarkt and his deal at USG runs till 2026. Boniface’s desire to go to a new club could play an important role in negotiations. Everton now need to jump ahead of Bayer Leverkusen if they are to sign Boniface this summer. The Toffees need to act quickly or they risk missing out on their striker targets.
